I’ve been involved in fitness endeavors for as long as I can remember, but it probably really kicked off after becoming obsessed with the anime show Dragon Ball Z in the early 2000s. I played basketball throughout middle school, transitioned to JROTC in high school, and was active outside of school sports with the neighborhood kids throughout the years.

I found CrossFit in the fall of 2017 after moving to Durham, North Carolina. I figured I needed to make friends, and finally had my excuse to give CrossFit a try. I immediately fell in love with the constantly varied, functional movement at high intensity – it was so different from the mundane weight training I had been doing over the last decade! The owner of the gym saw how much I was enjoying it, so naturally she encouraged me to go for my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate. I received it in the summer of 2018 and I haven’t looked back!

I coach because I love helping people find their inner athlete. Oftentimes we think of athletes as being of the highest pedigree in their sport, and I want to dismantle that notion by encouraging people to pick up heavy things, go a little faster, or try something they thought they’d never do – like get upside down. Coaching brings me joy in those small wins for people that don’t “look” like athletes. I coach because I want folks to move well for life, not just for the day.
